Our Social Purpose

Creating more equitable careers for women in technology

Women remain significantly underrepresented across Australia’s technology workforce, particularly in technical and leadership roles.

This underrepresentation is not simply a pipeline problem. Women continue to experience systemic barriers across hiring, pay, progression, leadership, workplace culture and caring responsibilities. These barriers affect women’s access to jobs, career advancement, earnings, leadership opportunities and their ability to remain and thrive in technology careers.

Why we exist

Project F exists to reduce gender inequality in technology and improve employment and career outcomes for women.

The T-EDI Standards is one of the primary ways we deliver that purpose.

Rather than asking women to adapt to workplaces that were not designed equitably, we work with employers to change the systems, policies and practices that shape people’s experience of work.

Through the T-EDI Standards, organisations can identify where gender inequity is embedded across the employee lifecycle, benchmark their current practices, take evidence-based action and be held accountable for progress.

How our work creates impact for women

Changes made by employers through the T-EDI Standards® can directly affect the women who work for them, and the women seeking to join them.

This includes improving:

  • access to technology jobs through more equitable recruitment and hiring

  • pay equity and transparency

  • access to career development, promotion and leadership opportunities

  • workplace flexibility and support for caring responsibilities

  • parental leave and return-to-work experiences

  • workplace culture, safety and inclusion

  • retention of women in technology careers

Our work focuses on changing the conditions that contribute to unequal outcomes, so that women have greater opportunity to enter, progress and remain in technology careers on equitable terms.

From workplace change to wider impact

Each participating organisation represents an opportunity to improve the working lives and career outcomes of the women within its workforce.

As more employers adopt consistent, evidence-based standards for gender equity, these changes can extend beyond individual workplaces and contribute to broader structural change across the technology sector.

Our ambition is not simply to increase representation. It is to help create a technology sector in which women have equitable access to opportunity, influence, reward and long-term careers.
